How To Clean Your Fire Hearth
- Gather the necessary supplies: You will need a fireplace brush or broom, a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment, a dust mask, gloves, a drop cloth or old newspapers, a bucket, warm water, mild detergent or fireplace cleaner, and a scrub brush.
- Prepare the area: Lay down a drop cloth or old newspapers around the fireplace to protect the surrounding floor or carpet from dirt and debris.
- Remove ashes: Use a fireplace brush or broom to sweep out any loose ashes and debris from the fireplace. Place the ashes in a metal container and dispose of them properly.
- Vacuum the fireplace: Use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to remove any remaining ashes, dust, and debris from the fireplace. Be sure to vacuum the walls, floor, and any crevices or corners.
- Clean the hearth: Mix warm water with a mild detergent or fireplace cleaner in a bucket. Dip a scrub brush into the solution and scrub the walls and floor of the fireplace to remove soot and stains. Rinse the brush frequently and change the water as needed. Allow the walls and floor to dry completely.
- Dispose of the cleaning materials: Empty the bucket of dirty water and dispose of it properly. Remove the drop cloth or newspapers and clean up any remaining debris.
